“FAST Meetings Co. enabled IM Medical to focus our business model and reach a consensus on the strategy that best leveraged the company’s core strengths. Most importantly the process allowed ownership of the strategies that were well understood and supported by Board members. The 6 month plan has been implemented and allowed us rapid growth whilst also supporting a sustainable business model”

Board meeting effectiveness is a tangible indicator of Board effectiveness. Whilst Boards are typically comprised of successful and experienced individuals. Board meeting processes and dynamics often do not support coherent oversight and leadership of the strategic growth of the organisation.
Review of Board meeting practices can reveal a range of opportunities for improvement. For example, Boards may not have defined clearly enough the boundaries between Board and CEO responsibility, thus creating ambiguity about the balance of operational versus strategic focus of meetings. Or, the dynamics of the Board do not allow robust communication or full information sharing, due to in-effective chairing or lack of clear framing of agenda items. In many cases, only a tenuous link can be found between meeting discussion topics and the priorities laid out in the strategic plan.
Developing effective, strategically oriented Board meetings
Boards can be reluctant to acknowledge ineffectiveness or have issues that are not recognised. Board meetings provide a practical starting point for development, as there is a clear and simple business case. It goes something like this;
"For the time, money and opportunity cost we invest in Board meetings, are we satisfied that we are achieving maximum value and benefit to the organisation?"
A better return on investment can be achieved by progressively developing your Board meeting agendas, the Board's strategic management framework and in some cases the skills of chairing and facilitating effective meetings.
