Engaging with Conference Delegates to Give them a Voice

Family Services members were still reeling from the results of a key funding tender process when an important government delegate chose to attend their national conference. The emotions threatened to spill over in to his presentation and create political havoc, unless something was done about it, fast.

FAST workshop in quick time

A FAST Meeting was held after dinner in order to provide a voice for members to express their views and concerns and generate a set of focus questions that could be posed to the Government official the following day.

The inclusion in the program at late notice meant limited time availability, so it was important to provide a fast moving, member centred and outcome based approach.

Questions were the answer

The session enabled the diverse group of members to understand the implications of the tender process from different perspectives, and to vent some of the emotions and negativity, which were widespread. This enabled the group to get clear on the key questions it wished to raise the following day.

The transparent and inclusive process led to a more constructive outcome from the Government delegate's visit, alleviating what could otherwise have been a confrontational and messy affair.

"The session we did with you was inspired on many fronts. It allowed members to express their views. It got our best and brightest in one room for a shortish time to get the ideas out and our most obsessive members to get the wording of the questions right. Our Conference ended as a huge success.

You did an excellent job and we will use you in future when the opportunity arises"
